Hello, today, I have a quick and artsy Do-It-Yourself project that will help keep your favorite poem or quote engraved nicely in glass for you and all to admire. I also shared how-to create my inspirational poem plaque on my Instagram page @melodycolegates -a couple of months ago, but I thought I’d share it here too, just in case you would like to try my “nifty” DIY project for yourself πŸ™‚

YOU WILL NEED
1- 8″ x 10″ picture frame
1- small tube of mars black acrylic paint
1- small tube of gold acrylic paint
1- med flat paint brush
1- small round detail brush
1- pointed metal object (like a butter knife)
1- damp cloth

TO BEGIN
Take the glass out of the 8″ x 10″ frame and brush one side of the glass with a thin layer of black acrylic paint (two coats may be needed). Let air dry.  20170625_094917Then, use the tip of a metal object and carefully etch your poem into that painted surface.  Lightly scrape off the black paint until all of your letters show up clearly from the front. When you have finished etching your favorite poem into the painted glass, wipe off any excess paint chips and/or fingerprints with a damp cloth. Now, you should be ready to fill in all those little letters to make your poem stand out beautifully. So, on the same side (you just painted and etched your poem into), dip your brush into the metallic gold acrylic paint and completely fill in each letter of your entire poem. After it dries, for a good 15 minutes or so, turn it over to reveal your own special poem etched in glass for years to come.

TIP
Write your poem backwards on the glass in order to read it forward when you turn it around. Hope that makes sense πŸ™‚

I wrote my ‘Success’ poem back in 2001 and created this plaque as a memento right afterwards. It is still hanging on my living room wall till this day and looks as though I made it yesterday.

Tag me on Instagram if you try my DIY poem etched in glass! I’d also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks! Happy Sunday πŸ€—

success poem with books

silently i sit

silently iΒ sit

eyes damp

lips weak

trying to capture inspiration before time has run out

amazingly thirty years have not rung the chime of fulfillment

each thought momentarily elapses into a distant memory

every muscle in my body tends to beΒ useless

silently i sit

eyes damp

lips weak

solemn is the night and day, i pray that i won’t grow weak

you offered me a subtle kiss, when in my light i did not deserve it

i grieve no more, now that you are here, but my fear still stands by

at every turn it pushes me into a dark corridor, where it shamelessly hides

lurking in the blackness, in the thickness of the air

i mutter out one last cry before it takes me deeper, but there’s no one there

to hear my breathes of endurance or my pains of laughter

no one sees when i am doing well, they only witness my disaster

where is god? i thought he sees all, why would he want me to suffer

am i acting unto him, like i do in the eyes of my significant other

shame on me, i must be dreaming, this is no life for royalty

oh god, please walk with me again and do what you must with our rings

this is my second post, i apologize for not introducing myself in the first one. but here goes a short & sweet intro…….

i’m mrs. melodrama mama aka melody πŸ™‚ i created this blog to showcase my writing skills in hopes to share my stories and poems with others who may find them a tad bit interesting, entertaining and insightful to read. maybe even catch the eye of a few beta readers, literary agents and book publishers for my upcoming novels. that would be so amazing. for now though, i just want the practice of writing everyday, journaling my thoughts, editing old stories and making new ones come to life on my blog. i’m also going back to college for creative writing in the fall after several years of being a full-time professional self-taught artist.

i wrote an impromptu poem on my about page for fun, if you’d like to check it out click the about link at the top.

thank you for reading! follow my blog to get notifications on the new drama that’s about to unfold next week.

peace love & melodrama πŸ‘‘πŸ’‹πŸ“πŸŽ¨πŸ’ƒ
